The Bench

A clinical spine, named and accountable.

A Medical Director governs protocol. A Director of Nursing trains the team. A Lead Therapist holds the family work. A consulting network sits behind them, summoned by the case.

Medical Director

Physician of record.

Board-certified physician with a primary specialty in Pain Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, two of the disciplines closest to the substances Avina principals most often present with. Authority to prescribe across the relevant schedules. Practice history with substance-use disorder, post-acute pain, post-surgical taper, and the medication classes that comprise our protocol library.

The Medical Director approves every Avina Detox case before clinical work begins, signs every protocol in the library, co-signs every nursing note, and holds the kill-switch authority on any case that should not be running.

Director of Nursing

The standard at the bedside.

A senior nurse leads the deployed team. She schedules every shift. She validates every nurse against Avina’s training curriculum before a first deployment. She holds the after-hours line. She is the first call when a case escalates.

Nurses deployed to a principal’s residence are licensed in the jurisdiction of the engagement, vetted, NDA-bound, trained in the Avina protocol library, and sized to the case. We do not staff to availability. We staff to fit.

Lead Therapist

The family work.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with adolescent specialism. Holds the doctrine of the identified-patient framework as Avina applies it: the principal is rarely the only person in the room, and the family system is part of the prognosis.

The Lead Therapist authors the Telehealth practice, supervises the deployed therapists, and is the standing point of contact with the principal’s outside psychiatry where one exists.

Consulting Network

Summoned by the case.

Avina holds standing relationships with consulting clinicians across the disciplines a principal’s life will, eventually, require: addiction medicine, psychiatry, primary care, internal medicine, post-acute pain, surgical referral, sleep medicine, integrative medicine, nutrition, neuropsychology.

Outpatient detox specialists in Northern California, residential placement specialists across the United States and Europe, executive medicine in Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and a small bench of physicians who travel.

The consulting network is the answer to the question we hear most: can you also help us with. The answer is almost always yes. The bench is the reason.

A note on names

The Medical Director, the Director of Nursing, the Lead Therapist, and the consulting network are named to principals and family offices under engagement, not on the public site. The standard is not the name. The standard is the standard.
